Jake Arrieta reportedly signs with Phillies for 3 years, $75 million
The Philadelphia Phillies signed starting pitcher Jake Arrieta, formerly of the Chicago Cubs, to a three-year, $75 million contract, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the deal includes an opt-out clause after the second season, but the Phillies have the option to void it in the form of a two-year extension. Arrieta appeared to lose a step with the Cubs in 2017 but he should still be able to provide an upgrade at the front of the Phillies rotation. The veteran right-hander celebrated his 32nd birthday last week.
Arrieta went 14-10 across 30 starts last season while recording a 3.53 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 168 1/3 innings.
