Dodgers' Yasiel Puig not expected to start versus righties

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig appears destined to spend a lot of time on the bench in the playoffs as it's "highly unlikely" Puig will start over Andre Ethier or Carl Crawford versus a righty, reports Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com.

What It Means:

That means he might only get one start in the NLDS, as Steven Matz is the lone lefty projected to be in the New York Mets' rotation. It's no surprise that the Dodgers are leaning toward having Puig come off the bench, though, as Puig has made just one start over the last six weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Whether because of injuries or not, Puig has seen his productivity slip this season. His slash is down to .256/.324/.440 with 11 home runs over 306 plate appearances. His hard-hit rate is still above average at 31.9, but that is down from 37.5 in 2013 and 34.6 in 2014. Additionally, his soft-hit rate is a career-high of 20.2.
