Yankees' Greg Bird (ankle) active, starting on Saturday
New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird has been activated from the team's 60-day disabled list and will be in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Seattle Mariners.
Bird has missed a little over a month after undergoing surgery to remove excess bone growth from his right ankle. His return to first base sends Tyler Austin to the bench and Chase Headley to third as Bird hits sixth against the Mariners' Yovani Gallardo this afternoon.
Bird has just 1 home run and a .222 wOBA through 19 games this season. But, having posted 3 dingers and a .553 wOBA in a 9-game rehab assignment at Triple-A, he could be a key contributor both in today's game and going forward for the Yankees.
