Yankees "making progress toward" trade for Athletics' Sonny Gray, Yonder Alonso
The New York Yankees are "making progress toward" a trade involving Oakland Athletics' starter Sonny Gray and first baseman Yonder Alonso, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
While the Yankees look to bolster their run toward the playoffs and a possible World Series title, the Athletics are heavily interested in what the Yankees have to offer from their system. Gray is receiving interest from other teams, but the Yankees might have the most to offer the A's though it remains to be seen which prospects might be involved if a deal were to take place between the two.
Gray is 6-4 with a 3.38 FIP and 1.9 WAR across 15 starts this season. A 30-year-old free-agent-to-be, Alonso has slugged 21 home runs with a .374 wOBA and 2.0 WAR on the year.
