Baez in Cubs' first wave of September callups

Infield prospect Javier Baez is expected to be in the Chicago Cubs' first wave of September callups.

What It Means:

It's entirely possible he could unseat Starlin Castro and Tommy La Stella for starts at second base. Addison Russell has recently taken over everyday shortstop duties, so Baez's best chance for a September impact is at the keystone.

In 229 plate appearances in the bigs last year, Baez batted an ugly .169/.227/.324, impressively with nine home runs in that span. He was looking much better even at Triple-A Iowa this year than he was in 2014, batting .316/.380/.530 with 13 home runs, 60 RBI, and 17 stolen bases. We'll be hoping he can make difference in the fantasy stretch run and playoffs.
