Cubs' Miguel Montero designated for assignment
Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Montero has been designated for assignment.
The move comes a day after Montero all but blamed pitcher Jake Arrieta for allowing seven stolen bases to the Washington Nationals. The Cubs will call up Victor Caratini in a corresponding move, and Willson Contreras will see even more time behind the plate. As for Montero, he will almost certainly be picked up from waivers, as his bat could be valuable to an AL ball club.
Montero has 4 home runs, 8 RBI and a .352 wOBA in 112 plate appearances in 2017. Prior to the move, we projected him for 3 dingers and 14 RBI the rest of the season.
