Mariners' Felix Hernandez (shoulder) ready for a bullpen session
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday, per Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune.
Hernandez has been out since late-April with shoulder inflammation but looks ready to start a throwing program after playing long toss without any discomfort. After seeing how the bullpen session this weekend goes, the Mariners are expected to provide a more concrete timetable for Hernandez's return. It appears he will be out until at least mid-June.
Hernandez was off to start the season, posting a 4.73 ERA, 4.87 FIP, and a 2-2 record while allowing a career-worst 2.03 home runs per nine innings.
