Indians have no plans to use Carlos Santana as outfielder
The Cleveland Indians have no plans to utilize first baseman Carlos Santana as an outfielder for the time being, manager Terry Francona said.
Santana, himself, said in a radio interview earlier in February that he planned on playing the outfield at times this coming season. That may still come to fruition, but it is not in the Indians' immediate plans. For his career, the 30-year-old has seen just two plate appearances as a left fielder, and none in right or center.
Across 688 plate appearances in 2016, Santana cranked a career-high 34 home runs, as well as bests in runs scored (89) and RBI's (87). His .259/.366/.498 slash line represents three marks that haven't been that high since 2013.
