Miguel Cabrera endures ankle flareup Wednesday, not playing for Tigers
Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is out of the lineup Wednesday due to a right ankle flareup.
The Tigers are electing to err on the side of caution after Cabrera experienced something similar last week. Since the club has the day off Thursday, he should be ready to return for Friday's series opener with the Kansas City Royals. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is hitting eighth and starting at first Wednesday afternoon versus the Chicago White Sox and ace southpaw Chris Sale.
This has actually been a bit of a down year for Cabrera, who is slashing .309/.383/.540 through 556 plate appearances, with a .385 wOBA and .231 ISO that both fall below his lofty career averages. He currently ranks 17th among major league batters with a 2.69 nERD.
