Pirates' Gerrit Cole could have bone spur

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Gerrit Cole's elbow injury could be a bone spur issue according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

What It Means:

An MRI revealed no ligament damage so Cole is heading for a second opinion in Los Angeles on Sunday. Cole has been pretty bad over his last four starts so there is a chance this has been an on-going issue for the Pirates' righty. Steven Brault will be recalled to start on Monday against the Chicago Cubs.

Despite struggling with a 7.06 ERA over his last four starts, Cole owns a 3.55 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 114 innings pitched this season. The 25 year-old has a 19.3 strikeout rate and a 1.93 nERD in 2016.
