Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw resumes baseball activities

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw (back) resumed throwing on Sunday for the first time since he was shut down on July 16.

What It Means:

Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said on Friday that he was optimistic that Kershaw would be back in September, and while no specifics were released about Sunday's throwing session, it is certainly a step in the right direction.

While Kershaw dazzled with a 1.79 ERA and 32.88 percent strikeout rate through 16 starts this season, his (still outstanding) 2.26 SIERA was on pace to be his highest since 2013.
