Lance McCullers fans 10 in Astros' win over Angels

Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers fanned 10 batters over eight-plus innings in a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

What It Means:

McCullers allowed only one run on on four hits, but he did walk four batters to go with his 10 punch outs. He struck out Mike Trout three times and he almost had a complete game before walking two to leadoff the ninth inning. His 10 strikeouts Friday also tied a season-high.

McCullers now has a 3.33 ERA with a 29.30 strikeout rate over 12 starts and 70 1/3 innings this season. Walks have been an issue for the righty, with a 13.7 walk rate. However, his 2.74 FIP is well on its' way to being a career best. Our models project him to regress some down the stretch though, with a 4.11 ERA and a 21.10 strikeout rate over 48 remaining innings.
