Tigers' Jordan Zimmermann almost ready for rehab assignment
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann (neck) could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo as soon as this weekend.
Zimmerman has been tossing some bullpen sessions lately and he threw a 40-pitch session on Thursday. The Tigers expect him to need two rehab starts before being activated, which means he could be about two weeks away from being back with Detroit.
Zimmermann's 4.54 xFIP ranks 22nd worst among qualified starting pitchers this season, and his 15.15 strikeout percentage is well below the current league average (21.00 percent). Our models project him to record a 4.13 ERA and a 15.10 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
