Cuban prospect Yulieski Gourriel auditions for Mets
The New York Mets hosted a 90-minute workout Monday for Cuban infielder Yulieski Gourriel in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
General manager Sandy Alderson, special assistant J.P. Ricciardi and some of the team's top scouts all formed what was considered a "pretty big contingent" in St. Lucie, according to Marc Carig of Newsday. Despite the Mets addition of Jose Reyes over the weekend and their intentions of playing him at the hot corner, that move will not hamper the club's pursuit of Gourriel. That being said, the 32-year-old will be in high demand (he also recently worked out for the Los Angeles Dodgers) and won't be available for cheap.
The Mets currently rank 11th in numberFire's MLB Team Power Rankings and we give them a 19.2 percent chance of winning the National League East.
