Blue Jays send Spencer Horwitz down Wednesday

The Toronto Blue Jays optioned first baseman Spencer Horwitz to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

What It Means:

Horwitz was sent back down to make room for the return of Brandon Belt (hamstring) from the injured list. He went 2-for-8 with an RBI, a run scored, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts in three starts after making his MLB debut over the weekend. Belt will start at DH and bat third in Wednesday afternoon's series finale against right-hander Sandy Alcantara and the Miami Marlins.

Belt ($2,500) is numberFire's third-best point-per-dollar value among batters on Wednesday and our models project him for 11.3 FanDuel points. However, per our MLB Heat Map, the Blue Jays' implied total is fifth-lowest of the day at 3.69 and the game total is a pitcher-friendly 7.0. Alcantara has a 4.97 ERA and 4.23 xERA this season, with a 42.2% hard-hit rate, 19.4% strikeout rate, and 7.3% walk rate. The hard-hit rate and xERA are both career-worsts since Alcantara became a full-time starter in the majors.
