Mets' Matt Harvey goes seven scoreless versus White Sox

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey fired seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday.

What It Means:

Coming off two disaster starts against the Washington Nationals, Harvey bounced back with his best (and longest) outing of the season. That’s baseball for you. He also had his highest fastball velocity of the season. Harvey limited the White Sox to just two hits and one walk while striking out six batters. He appeared to be in some trouble after the first two batters reached in the seventh and were moved over to second and third after a sacrifice bunt, but he got Todd Frazier to foul out to first base before retiring J.B. Shuck on a ground out. It was an encouraging step in the right direction for Harvey. He’ll try to keep it going this weekend against the Marlins in Miami.

Harvey's performance on Monday lowered his xFIP to 4.06 and increased his strikeout percentage to 18.7. Our models currently project him to record a 3.84 ERA and a 20.3 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
