Tigers confirm Matt Boyd will toe the rubber opposite Oakland on Saturday

Detroit Tigers pitcher Matt Boyd has been confirmed as the starter on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics.

What It Means:

It had been the assumption after he was scratched from Thursday's scheduled outing at Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers hope it's just a spot start, as Jordan Zimmermann (groin) is hoping to be ready for his next turn next week. Boyd went 4 2/3 shutout innings in a relief appearance for the Tigers last month and boasts a 2.06 ERA in eight starts for Toledo this year.

Boyd is 1-3 in those eight outings, whiffing 7.69 batters per nine frames across 48 innings for the year.
