Vincent Velasquez lasts four frames for Phillies in loss to Detroit

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Vincent Velasquez was knocked around for three runs on nine hits and two walks over just four frames in Monday's loss to the Detroit Tigers.

What It Means:

Velasquez pitched out of trouble a couple times, including a bases-loaded situation in the first inning. However, the Tigers took him deep three times, knocking him out of the game with back-to-back blasts by J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera to lead off the fifth. Velasquez has flashed his enormous upside this season but has also mixed in some clunkers, which isn't a surprise for a 23-year-old with limited big league experience. He'll get the Chicago Cubs this weekend.

For the year, Velasquez stands at 5-1 with a 2.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 28.77 strikeout percentage across 52 1/3 total innings in his nine appearances this season.
