Oakland's Sonny Gray roughed up for 11 hits, seven runs
Oakland Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray struggled in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners, yielding seven runs on 11 hits over seven-plus innings.
Gray was coming off a two-inning debacle against the Detroit Tigers (the shortest start of his career). While he managed to pitch into the eighth in Tuesday's tango with the Mariners, the end result was still unsettling. Four of the seven runs on Gray's line came after he trotted out to start the eighth inning. He did not record an out in the frame. It is understandable if fantasy owners are unnerved by his slow start (4.84 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 32/16 K/BB ratio over 35 1/3 innings), but patience is a virtue. Gray will try to turn the statistical ship around at Fenway when he does battle with the Red Sox in his next scheduled start.
Gray is off to a slow start (4.84 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 32 strikeouts and 16 walks over 35 1/3 innings), and his peripherals don't tell a much better story. He owns a 4.04 SIERA, 20.9 strikeout percentage and 10.5 walk percentage, the latter of which is a career-worst clip. Gray will try to turn the statistical ship around at Fenway when he does battle with the Boston Red Sox in his next scheduled start.
