White Sox are in on Ian Desmond
The Chicago White Sox are one of the teams considering free agent shortstop Ian Desmond, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
This is not the first time we've heard Desmond linked to the White Sox. The Tampa Bay Rays are also in the running, although as of now, both clubs have been reluctant to sacrifice a draft pick in order to sign Desmond. Desmond's poor 2015 season, coupled with his draft pick compensation, means he might have to settle for a one-year contract and test the free agent market again next off-season.
Desmond's wOBA fell for the third straight season, ending 2015 as a lowly .294. His strikeout percentage was a career worst (29.2 percent) and was also the fourth highest in baseball. He did hit 19 home runs and steal 13 bases, although both totals were down from the previous three seasons, in which he made the 20/20 club each year. Desmond's -0.70 nERD ranked 329th.
