Blue Jays will wait to decide on closer

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Wednesday the club will wait until midway through spring training or perhaps later to decide on a closer.

What It Means:

Roberto Osuna pitched well last season as a 20-year-old rookie, posting a 2.58 ERA and recording 20 saves, but his role is no longer defined after the Blue Jays acquired reliever Drew Storen from the Washington Nationals in January. It's possible Storen's experience as a closer makes him the early favorite going into spring training. This is a situation fantasy players will want to monitor closely as the Jays figure to find themselves in plenty of save situations.

Osuna posted a 3.45 xFIP in 69 2/3 innings last season and recorded a 27.7 strikeout percentage (league average is 20.4 percent). Storen's 2015 xFIP was 3.24 in 55 innings, and he posted a 29.4 strikeout percentage. Having to choose between two quality relievers at the back of the bullpen is a good "problem."
