Yadier Molina placed on Cardinals' IL with thumb sprain

The St. Louis Cardinals placed catcher Yadier Molina on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 29, with a right thumb tendon strain.

What It Means:

Molina initially suffered the injury on Sunday, but it was believed to just be a bruise. His timeline to return is unknown. The Cardinals called up catcher Andrew Knizner from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding roster move.

Molina is batting .265/.294/.397 with 4 homers, 13 doubles, 33 RBI, 18 runs scored, and 4 steals in 201 plate appearances this season.
