Tigers' Michael Fulmer to undergo Tommy John procedure

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer will undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.

What It Means:

Fulmer's season is over before it even started after he received a third opinion Tuesday that confirmed the first two. The 26-year-old right-hander will miss all of 2019 and likely open 2020 on the injured list. Fulmer's ERA has gone up each year since he entered the majors, from 3.06 as a rookie, to 3.83 in 2017, before ballooning to 4.69 last season.

Fulmer owns a career 3.81 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with a 24-31 record over 456 innings (75 games).
