Matt Carpenter, 1B, St. Louis Cardinals

Wouldn't you know it, Matt Carpenter actually didn't hit a home run this weekend! While we obviously aren't expecting Carpenter to keep hitting dingers every single night, he remains an intriguing contrarian play in a lefty-lefty matchup against Tommy Milone.

Milone actually has compelling peripherals over three starts, including a 25.7% strikeout rate, but we're not putting a whole lot of stock in that from a guy with a career 17.0% strikeout rate who throws under 90 miles per hour. Even against lefties, Milone has a modest career 4.45 FIP and only induces grounders at a 33.1% clip.

Meanwhile, through Carpenter's exploits this year, he hasn't missed a beat versus southpaws, posting an excellent 53.3% hard-hit rate, .389 wOBA, and .301 ISO in the platoon split. He's been arguably the best hitter in the game since mid-May, so we shouldn't hesitate at any opportunity to use him when the masses will be looking elsewhere.
