Up against ace Max Scherzer tonight, the New York Mets certainly will have their work cut out for them, and hitters from both the right and left sides of the plate are in trouble. Peering in specifically at lefties, Scherzer's rate of 1.11 home runs per nine innings pitched (HR/9) and 51.7% fly-ball rate may look appealing at first, but upon closer review, it appears to be fool's gold.

Lefties have struggled against Scherzer, with a .273 wOBA, 32.4% strikeout rate, and 26.9% hard-hit rate over 262 total batters faced in 2018, and Michael Conforto hasn't been at his best against righties in 2018. In 230 plate appearances, the outfielder owns a .308 wOBA, .134 ISO, and 32.9% hard-hit rate compared to marks of .311, .169 and 30.4% against southpaws.

While he may seem like a cheap contrarian play, and Scherzer does give up a few more long-balls to lefties, it's probably best to stay away from Conforto.
