Lorenzo Cain, OF, Kansas City Royals

FanDuel Price: $3,700

The Kansas City Royals have a 4.61 implied team total against Andrew Cashner today, making them a very appealing stack.

Cashner had an ugly 4.72 SIERA last season, and he gave up a whopping 41.0% hard-hit rate while keeping the ball on the ground just 37.4% of the time against left-handers. So, lefties are a full go!

However, Casher is a bit stingier against same-side bats. He keeps the ball on the ground much better against them, with an excellent 56.6% career ground-ball rate. In 2016, righties had a 30.8% hard-hit rate, but in each of the previous four seasons, he kept that number below 27.0%.

Despite likely hitting in his usual three spot, this makes right-hander Lorenzo Cain a poor fit. He lacks pop to begin with, and historically has neither the high fly-ball rate nor the hard-hit rate to reasonably expect he'll be able to drive the ball much against Cashner.

Thus far this season, Cain has a poor 18.4% hard-hit rate. He does have some speed and could swipe a bag, but that's hardly enough upside to justify his price.

Salvador Perez ($3,100) gets the same matchup, but with the limited options at catcher, he's still in play. Last season, against same-side hurlers, Perez had a solid 35.6% hard-hit rate.
