Questions
How early are you willing to take a QB?
In standard scoring, what's the earliest you would take Manning, Brees or Rodgers?

I would take any of these guys easily a round after their ADP, which is why i never end up with them. I think Peyton would be a good deal if he falls to late 2nd(again i think he is overvalued). Rodgers I would actually take early 3rd(like him this year). Brees I dont like till the 4th... People think im crazy but w/e. I love Romo this year, think he will finish top 5 in fantasy points and is a steal at his current ADP(or even a few rounds before)

Romo, Cam, Cutler in that order.

I refuse to take a QB until the 9th round..Romo, Cutler, Cam...I'll take any of them

^ I think Manning is only available in the 5th in maybe .1% of leagues. Mostly gone in the first.

So if Manning is available in the 5th, you refuse to take him?

I agree with that. Honestly though, the only 3 i would take in front of Romo are Peyton, Rodgers, and Brees. I have Romo ranked as my #4. But yeah if peyton falls to the 4th or 5th for some reason you snatch him.

I agree that Manning in the 5th isn't realistic .... but my point is QBs can still be a great value when they fall. I disagree with comments like "never take position A early " or " I always go RB-RB in the 1st 2 rounds" - almost every player represents a value at some point.

I agree with that Rob. I think you go for the highest floor you can find in the first two rounds. You can go for ceilings afterwards.

For me, it's all about what am I giving up to take one of those guys?

While they obviously provide a weekly advantage at the QB position, I probably won't take them or think about taking them until the 3rd round because I know RBs are scarce. I also want a stud WR if possible (or a hot RB2), which I will need to get in the first two rounds. I don't want to miss out at the RB or WR position because I took Manning, Brees or Rodgers.

I also know that this mentality means I probably won't have any of those three on my team because they are going fairly early in most mock drafts I do, but I'm OK with that. I figure the people taking those three are going to be missing a solid RB1 or WR that I can then plug in to my team. I also know that I can get a reliable QB in the 5th or 6th round, which I am OK with.

I say all of this with a grain of salt because my draft strategy is always changing and I haven't picked the same QB in any of the mock drafts I've done. So, if on draft day, these guys are available for my 3rd round pick, I would take them...I just don't want to miss out on the positions with larger point differentials between the 1st and 3rd round than QBs.

Wait on QBs. Then come the trade deadline I can trade the depth away that I accumulated in the first 9 rounds of the draft to the guy who used an early pick on a QB and now has no RB depth. You get your elite QB when it really matters in the playoffs while barely touching your starting lineup

i would wait on any quarterback... you can get cutler, rivers, big ben really late but great value

Late 2nd to 3rd at best. QB is deep and you can easily get a quality starter rounds 5-7. You have to get a high floor with your RB's and WR's (in that order) your first two rounds or you have no shot at winning. RB gives you the most reliable return on investment and the WR field is also very deep. Go Megatron, D. Thomas, Dez, and AJ Green in the late first to early second if you have to. You can take Graham in the late 2nd round because the drop off from him to the 90% of the others is huge enough to make a difference (unlike QB).

Like Lauren said, what are you giving up. I just watched people in my league reach for top 3 QB's in the first and second and they have very average depth at RB and WR. I ended up with Peterson, Graham, and DeMarco Murray. I still ended up with Romo and Cutler; not elite but going on match-ups I'll likely be top 10 there. I won my league last year with the same strategy.

The point is, you still can get very solid QB's in the later rounds but you can't do the same with RB and WR.

I'm in a 6 pts passing TD league. QB's fly off the board. I think there will be real value late. I really like a certain Qb that I have been stretching for in the 7th in mocks, after I have 3 WR's and 3 Rb's.
