Questions
Where to draft elite quarterbacks . Randall Senn. JJ . Daniel Lindsay
Every player has a value. Everyone understands that. Megatron is as good as it gets at WR, yet nobody is taking him #1 overall. Most experts agree in your normal standard or PPR leagues up to 12 teams, drafting a QB in the first round is probably too steep a price. So where is the value?

I believe its Brees, Rodgers, Manning in that order, and its from the 16th pick on. End of the 2nd round is priced appropriately and anywhere in the third round is absolutely solid value. I recently saw a stance that you should never draft a QB in the first three rounds, and I wanted to get some other feedback, or hear the argument for steering clear in the first three rounds

If Brees, Manning or Rodgers were still available in the 3rd Round I would take them but they won't be. If they are I would jump on them. After that the common consensus is to wait and wait for a QB as they are of similar value.

Its about replacement value and perception. You are only playing 1 QB at a time. With RBs/WRs, you are typically playing 2 RBs, 2 WR and then a flex. So you need to stack up on those positions as well.

I tend to wait on my QB/TE and focus on RB/WRs. Mainly RBs because I play a lot of standard. The dropoff in RBs is STEEP. Picking your RB1 in the 1st round versus the 2nd or 3rd is a dramatic variance, As opposed to the variance in QBs, it isnt as wide of a gap. In PPR, the same applies but now the focus in on pass catching RBs and WRs.

But with the QBs, once you get out of the big 3, there is a HUGE pocket of acceptable QBs. And thats where you need to look at the Replacemnt Value. Look at NF QB Rankings. The difference in the top 3 Brees/Peyton/Rodgers is 20 Points. The difference between Cam Newton (#4) versus Rivers (#10) is 20 points.

20 Points over the course of 16 is negliable.

Thank you for your answer. I do agree with you. That is typically how I approach my drafts, but I guess I should have asked the question a little differently. I see people take the late round qb idea off a cliff, like saying never draft a QB in the first three rounds. Even late round QB diehards know every player has a value. If Brees or Rodgers are available in the 3rd round, its a no brainer. I just wanted to get some clarification on the idea to never draft a QB in the first three rounds.
