Insane to consider Eddie Lacy at #2 overall?
Maybe I'm reading too much in to this, but I've been thinking about bucking the trend and going with Lacy at #2 overall in a standard scoring draft. I just keep reading so many positive things about him and that offense, whereas with the top guys, most of what I ever hear is consolidated to either "He's the top guy cuz he was so good last year" or "He's going to break down because of how much he was used last year/how old he is/etc"

Thoughts?

I think its kind of hard to push down players who have been so consistent. Eddie lacy is only going into his second year, its not hard to imagine him not living up to expectation this year(even though signs point to that happening). Also remember what happened to second year backs last year who were promising huge jumps(Doug Martin?). I would say he is solidly the 5th RB on my board at this point. Reguardless, its your team. If you believe Lacy to be the best pick then do it. End of year rankings are never the same as they start the year.

The only thing i suggest is that, if you are in a league that allows pick trading, you try to trade down to 4 or maybe 5. That way you still are easily able to land lacy and can also move up a few spots in the second round.

Right. I guess I just see the hype on Lacy being a lot different than the hype on guys like Martin last year. I thoroughly believe Martin's value was inflated because of his gaudy end of season slash line, which was due largely in part to just a single game. He's definitely very talented, but I didn't really believe in him as a top 3 RB like he was mostly being drafted. I guess what kinda tips me over the edge with Lacy is the article NF put out a little bit ago about goal line efficiency from last year. Lacy was hanging right there with the big guns at RB in terms of attempts, and even more impressive was that his conversion rate was significantly higher than anyone else's. Pretty impressive. I suppose the argument could be made that his ceiling has already been reached (a la popular anti-Keenan Allen arguments), but I just love that Packers offense so much this year...when they've got everyone healthy and are firing on all cylinders, I do not think it's outlandish to say that they are even more fearsome than the Bronco's. I dunno. This is why i'm on the fence. It has elements of being a gamble for sure, and definitely not the tried and true approach...but ultimately, I know my chances of actually picking someone who finishes as the best RB are probably 1 in only 8, and when I start looking at some of the more high volume guys from the past couple of years, I can't help but be attracted to Lacy as an odd kind of upside pick.

I actually wrote an article for numberFire about how Lacy has the type of upside to be the #1 overall RB in fantasy this year: https://www.numberfire.com/nfl/news/2700/could-eddie-lacy-finish-as-the-top-fantasy-running-back-in-2014

With that said, so do Shady, Charles, Forte and AP. Our projections like Charles first and Shady second. Those are the guys I would take in the top 2, but there isn't a huge drop off from them to Lacy like many people think.

Agree with Sam, Lacy will be a monster this year. They've been working him into the passing game in training camp too.

those guys are forshure going to get you solid fantasy points they might not be the number 1 fantasy scorer but very rarely do you win your fantasy league with your first pick but you can definitely loose your league with your first pick

Ajay, This is YOUR team. If you feel like Lacy is your guy, go with it. But just remember, with the #2 spot, you want to absolutely nail it. McCoy, JC, AP and Forte have produced. There is no workload concern for them. I would go with one of them before Lacy. If you feel THAT strongly about Lacy, then why not draft one of the top 3 and just trade for Lacy. You could get Lacy PLUS a decent WR.
