Questions
Preseason Bench Strategy
Standard scoring 10-team league

My team at the moment is:
Kaepernick
Forte, Murray, Gio, Sankey, Pierce, D. Freeman, J. Stewart, D. Brown, J. Hill
VJax, DJax, Torrey, Maclin, Hopkins
Cameron
No Kicker
No D/ST

As you can probably tell, I used my early picks to grab RBs. From there I figured that my bench spaces would be best served by stocking up on RBs and hoping to package them for upgrades at other positions. Just wanted to see what you guys think of this strategy? Would I be better off dropping some of these guys for a more balanced roster?

Guys available on the waivers are
Roethlisberger
Cooks/Benjamin/Amendola/Randle
Ladarius Green/Walker/Clay
Jets/Steelers/Bears
(or Ingram/Helu/Hyde at RB)

While I am not a fan of your QB or TE (or at least where you probably drafted them) there is no need to grab a backup for either. Big Ben will still be on the wire come the beginning of the season.

I think you did good in going RB heavy (I would have nabbed more WRs though) and not grabbing backups to unnecessary positions like TE and QB. Stick with it till the beginning of the season, and even then you don't need back ups for either. I rolled without a backup QB all last season so that I could keep depth/potential breakout players on my bench. For the bye week you can find a serviceable QB off the wire for 1 week. Eventually just before the playoffs last season I was able to upgrade my QB to Brees without dealing away any of my starters (except Romo). all depth guys because I was patient with them and didn't carry a backup QB "just in case"

You're fine where your at. If you can find it in yourself to drop a RB and grab Randle then go for it

I got Cameron in the 7th (which I think is alright) and Kaep in the 10th when everyone started grabbing backups. I think ideally I want to trade away Stewart, freeman, brown and Pierce to try and upgrade my QB/WR, and then add Dunbar later (along with a kicker and a D)

But yeah, wasn't sure if I was better off having a more balanced bench or stocking up at RB and hoping to trade up at the other positions.

I would drop both Jonathon Stewart and Donald Brown. Both are stuck in Rb committees. Stewart has Cam, to contend with for vulture TD's and Ryan Matthews will still be getting majority of carries in San Diego- with Woodhead getting 3rd downs. Keep the other bench backs as they have upside, and see if one of them hits. Note: i see upside in Green and Hyde 2nd half of season, as they get more plays called, to eventually replace fantasy fossils - Gates/ Gore.

Who would you pick up then? I would be leaning towards roethlisberger, just think that he would be the most likely to contribute to my team. Obviously I'm in no rush to add a kicker or D/ST, whatever's available now will still be available for week 1

i'm not completely sold on Kaep, (he was my #1 QB last year in 2 leagues, & i got burned, until i picked up Foles). So yes, pick up Big Ben, i read Pittsburgh will use some no huddle offense, so at least give steady production. Since you have lots of backs, take another WR. Cooks is a rookie, but Brees is the QB, he may be a longshot, is Kenny Stills available ?

btw i'm high on Jeremy Hill, i think he will eventually be the clear cut RB1 for Cincy. Good job snatching Gio then Hill, as Bengals will go run heavy this year.

Yeah. I am also not sold on Kaep, but think he was great value where I got him (10th round, 15th qb off the board). Stills is available, I'm not sold on him though. I was probably leaning more towards a backup TE, I feel like I am more likely to get a genuine difference maker (or potential trade bait) there than at WR.

Rueben Randle should not be a free agent and Cooks should definitely provide some nice games this season for the Saints.

I guess I am more trying to find out if I am better off trying to hold all these RBs and hoping to make a trade later, or if I should drop Brown / Stewart etc. to make my team more balanced (adding Big Ben, Randle etc.)?

Randle was drafted but just got dropped. I agree that he probably should be rostered, but I can't see myself playing him ahead of VJax, DJax, Torrey or Maclin, and I can't see him being a particularly appealing trade piece either.
