League setup question
For a 10 team league, how many bench spots should we have?
Currently, our league is setup as follows:
Starting: 1 QB, 1 K, 1 DST, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 FLEX, and 1 TE.
5 Bench spots

A few of the members want to shrink the bench size from 5 to 3. I'm not one of these people, because unlike them, I recognize the need for depth and enjoy seeing people scramble with fear when they have a player injured or go on BYE.

How many is too many? What if the league expanded to 12 members, how many then?

That sounds absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't want any part of a 3 bench league. In all reality that kind of expands your "bench" to every player on the waiver wire because there would be so many rosterable players out there that in any given week you could pick up all FAs and field a serviceable team. Especially in a 10 team league

    Conclusion: Terrible idea

Amen, my thoughts exactly. The idea of 3 bench players was created out of spite due to my bench last season (notably I had Antonio Brown, Ryan Mathews, Lev'eon Bell among others). Proudly, I'm known as the "hoarder" of the league, haha. Not my fault the other guys draft terribly!

This thread did make me reconsider dropping our leagues bench to 6 though. We just left it at the default 7 on ESPN even though its a 12 team and the waiver wire has basically nobody

Yep. I had insane depth last season and was able to deal it at the trade deadline and had a ridiculously elite starting group for the playoffs.

5-6 bench spots is my preference. But I can see the challenge in playing with only 3. Its a challenge. Every year or 2 our league tries to add a wrinkle. Like positional limits ( I hated it. I like stockpiling RBs & WRs.) or adjusting the scoring. It makes things interesting.

I play with 6 bench spots and the same starting lineup as you in my 10-team leagues. It comes out to 15 total players per team, 150 players owned at any given time. I think that is ideal. 5 is fine as well.

I think 5 or 6 bench spots is ideal. I play in one league that has 7 bench spots and it's way too many. All the backup RBs end up getting rostered. I personally like the smaller bench size because it keeps the FA pool solid. 3 is tiny though -- that means you would get 1 backup QB and 2 backup RB/WR (might not even take a backup QB with only 3 spots).

3 would be very interesting and a different kind of league. You could easily need to drop an RB3 due to the bye week. You might go crazy with all the options on waivers every week. This would would cool for us in many leagues. I wouldn't think the guy who plays in one league would like this.
