Of course it makes sense! When you throw the ball a whole 17 times per game and have a one-read-and-run-away QB, you need a lot of different receiving targets.

Do you even watch the 49ers or even the NFL? Nobody throws less than even 28 attempts per game. In three playoff games, they averaged more than 27 attempts per game and averaged 26 pass attempts per game in 2013. They are 54/46 Pass Run and that is with one of the best scramblers in the game. Kaepernick ran at least 4-5 times per game on designed pass plays with an average of 5 or 6 yards per carry in the regular season and about 10 yard per carry in playoffs (and about 800 total rushing yards). Boldin, Crabtree, and Davis might make it hard for Johnson to even see more then a few targets.

Correction: Nobody throws less than 26 per game. When you have a good running game and play with the lead a lot, you usually lean run a little more as well due to you milking the clock.

Cor: 54/46 Run/Pass ......Note: The superbowl champions had less pass attempts per game than 49ers did in 2013....and thats even with wilson getting a bigger pocket from NFL refs ; )

The attempts/game statement was hyperbole, however, at 417 pass attempts, the 49ers attempted fewer passes than any other NFL franchise. So my point that they don't do a lot of passing is valid. My other point, that Kaepernick is poor at using his receiving depth, is also valid. When you watch him play, he rarely throws to any receiver beyond is 2nd read. If his 1st and 2nd options are covered, he takes off running. Why do they need another mid-sized receiver when they are already stocked up with that player type and they are underutilized???
