Avalanche shutting down Semyon Varlamov (groin) until after break
Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov (groin) won't play until after the All-Star break.
Varlamov's groin injury will require an extended absence, according to head coach Jared Bednar. He's already been limited to 24 games this year due to groin issues, something that has become a bit of a recurring theme throughout Varlamov's nine-year career. Calvin Pickard will be the primary netminder for Colorado while Spencer Martin serves as his backup.
On the year, Varlamov has struggled to a 6-17-0 record with an .898 save percentage and 3.38 goals-against average.
