Seahawks say Fred Jackson has high-ankle sprain

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said running back Fred Jackson has a high-ankle sprain.

What It Means:

This will likely keep Jackson off of the field for several weeks, leaving the 'Hawks dangerously short-handed at running back if Marshawn Lynch can't go in Week 5. If need be, they will rely on Thomas Rawls to carry the load against the Cincinnati Bengals.

On a per-play basis, Rawls ranks 37th in Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) among running backs with at least 20 opportunities. He's not the most exceptional back in the league, but he's about as good a backup as a team can hope for. The Bengals rank seventh in the NFL in schedule-adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP as a team, so he will be in for a tough test if called on.
