Victor Cruz, Jon Beason out Thursday for Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and linebacker Jon Beason are among 11 players who will not play in the Giants' preseason finale against the New England Patriots.
Cruz suffered a calf injury two weeks ago that has kept him out of practice, and his status for Week 1 is currently in doubt. Beason sprained his knee in the team's second preseason game, but the team is optimistic he'll be back for the start of the regular season.
Prior to last year's injury, Cruz was part of a Giants offense that ranked 14th in our schedule-adjusted Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play. Our projections currently see Cruz recording 72 receptions for 862 yards and 5 touchdowns. As for Beason, he missed 12 games last year due to injury as the team finished 25th in Defensive NEP per play. Beason is projected to bounce back well, though, with 83 tackles on the season.
