Panthers sign Derek Anderson to two-year extension

The Carolina Panthers have signed quarterback Derek Anderson to a two-year contract extension.

What It Means:

Anderson will serve as the backup to Cam Newton this season. He led the Panthers to two wins in two starts last season while Newton was hurt. Anderson has gone 19-of-33 for 219 passing yards and 1 passing touchdown this preseason.

The Panthers ranked 17th in our schedule-adjusted Passing Net Expected Points metric last season. Anderson will only regain fantasy relevance if Newton suffers a severe injury.
