Marcus Maye joins Jets' stacked secondary at 39th pick
The New York Jets selected Florida Gators free safety Marcus Maye with the 39th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Maye made 42 starts for the Gators’ secondary in his career, mostly playing deep. He also dabbled at slot corner and special teams. On tape, Maye showed range with 4.47 speed, plus ball skills, and an innate knack for forcing takeaways. The Jets will hope Maye can form a dynamic duo at the back end of their defense with fellow rookie Jamal Adams, who was taken with the sixth pick in the draft.
Maye logged seven career tackles for loss, eight forced fumbles, and five interceptions before his senior year was cut four games short by a broken left arm. The Jets' secondary was fourth-worst by Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play.
