Adrian Peterson signs with Saints on two-year deal

The New Orleans Saints signed running back Adrian Peterson to a two-year, $7-million contract.

What It Means:

The deal is essentially a one-year contract with a second-year option, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN. Mark Ingram is expected to remain the starter in New Orleans, but Peterson will likely soak up the majority of the 155 touches that Tim Hightower saw last season. The two runners could both carve out standalone fantasy value while splitting work in the Saints' backfield.

There were 88 running backs to notch at least 30 rushing attempts last year. Peterson earned -0.39 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt, by far the worst rate among that group.
