Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall and Patriots interested in a deal

The New England Patriots and free agent wide receiver Brandon Marshall have "some mutual interest," Ben Volin of The Boston Globe reports.

What It Means:

After being released by the New York Jets earlier this week, Marshall was inevitably going to be linked with the Patriots at some point. Perhaps New England will show some interest, but they finally have some quality options at receiver and have bigger issues on the other side of the ball. Marshall has also been linked with the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens.

Among the 41 receivers with at least 100 targets in 2016, Marshall's Reception Net Expected Points per target of 0.58 ranked sixth-worst. He also struggled to find the end zone, scoring just three times after turning in 45 combined touchdowns over the previous four seasons. Many of these struggles can be traced to poor quarterback play, however.
