Buccaneers clear out $6.5 million with release of Alterraun Verner
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released defensive back Alterraun Verner.
Verner was signed to a four-year, $25.5 million contract in the 2014 offseason, but he was a complete bust during his time in Tampa Bay, making just nine combined starts over his two-year tenure with the team. The move creates $6.5 million in cap space for the Buccaneers. Expect the 28-year-old Verner to get picked up as a fourth corner somewhere.
The Buccaneers finished last season ranked seventh in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play.
