Jets void Ryan Fitzpatrick's final year of contract

The New York Jets have voided the last year of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's contract, making him a free agent.

What It Means:

Fitzpatrick technically signed a two-year deal with the Jets last offseason but language in the contract allowed the team to void the second year of his contract five days after the Super Bowl. Because his $10 million signing bonus was spread out over two years, voiding Fitzpatrick's deal will result in $5 million in dead money against the team's 2017 salary cap. The 34-year-old was one of the worst quarterbacks in football in 2016.

Fitzpatrick earned -0.01 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back in 2016, the seventh-worst rate among the 39 quarterbacks to drop back at least 100 times.
