Roethlisberger talks up Wheaton as Steelers' number-two receiver
While on Sirius XM Radio on Friday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger talked up Markus Wheaton as the team's number-two wide receiver -- not Martavis Bryant.
This might just be to boost Wheaton's ego, as he's now completely overshadowed as a result of playing alongside Antonio Brown and Bryant, but it will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Bryant will miss time with an elbow infection.
Wheaton did see 86 targets last year, but he wasn't overly efficient with them. Among 62 receivers with at least 75 targets, Wheaton's Reception Net Expected Points per target score (0.64) ranked 37th. Bryant's 0.95 mark ranked second among all receivers with at least 40 targets.
