What It Means:
Johnson is currently slotted as the third wide receiver on the Chargers depth chart behind Keenan Allen and Malcom Floyd. However, there is opportunity for targets with Antonio Gates suspended and Eddie Royal departed to Chicago. He has the talent to breakout, as he posted three straight 1,000-yard seasons in Buffalo with Ryan Fitzpatrick as his quarterback.
Johnson impressively ranked in the top 20, among all wide receivers with at least 50 targets, with a 0.81 Reception Net Expected Points per target. Johnson also now upgrades from Colin Kaepernick to Philip Rivers as his quarterback. We project Johnson to finish the year with 42 receptions, 548 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns.
