Raiders release Roy Helu with injury settlement
The Oakland Raiders released running back Roy Helu with an injury settlement.
Helu signed a two-year, $4.1 million contract last March, but was dreadful in 2015 and hampered by injuries. He underwent surgery on both hips in the offseason, and the Raiders decided that he wasn't in their future plans. The fact that he wasn't able to carve out a role in a shaky backfield last season bodes very poorly for his NFL future.
Helu earned just 33 opportunities last year despite a barren depth chart, with a -0.05 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per carry mark on 17 attempts and 0.44 Reception NEP per target on 16 targets.
