John Fox on Jay Cutler: "We're in a performance-based business"

In reference to quarterback Jay Cutler's standing on the team, Chicago Bears head coach John Fox stated, "We're in a performance-based business."

What It Means:

Based on 2014, that's not great news for Cutler, who played below expectation level, according to our Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) metric.

Cutler's Passing NEP of -1.24 indicated that he lost the Bears more than a point, relative to what a league-average quarterback would have secured. Worse yet, that mark ranked 32nd among the 37 quarterbacks who attempted at least 200 drop backs last year. Unsurprisingly, Cutler was outperformed by his NFC North peers. Aaron Rodgers led the league in Passing NEP (188.41), Matthew Stafford ranked 11th (65.38), and Teddy Bridgewater ranked 21st (22.77).
