Rams cut Nick Foles

The Los Angeles Rams released quarterback Nick Foles.

What It Means:

This has been a long time coming. After dealing Sam Bradford and swapping some draft picks with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire Foles last off-season, the Rams then signed him to a two-year, $24.5 million extension, only to watch him start 11 games and play poorly enough to get benched for Case Keenum. Foles owned a horrific 69.0 passer rating and an awful 7:10 touchdown-to-interception ratio and career-worst 6.1 YPA. Despite the poor play, expect Foles to quickly find a backup job on a much cheaper contract. It's possible the New York Jets will have interest.

The Rams' passing attack as a whole -- both Case Keenum and Nick Foles -- ranked 32nd in Adjusted Offensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play in 2015. Foles' -0.17 Passing NEP per drop back ranked 44th among the 47 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs last season.
