Tyrod Taylor (rib) inactive for Giants against Raiders

New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor (rib cage) will not play Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, per head coach Brian Daboll.

What It Means:

Tyrod exited last Sunday's game with a rib cage injury and is considered week-to-week. Daniel Jones has been cleared to return and is expected to take back over for the first time since injuring his neck in Week 5. Undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito, who replaced Taylor at quarterback on Sunday, will be Jones' backup. Taylor wound up being a slight upgrade for the Giants' offense while Jones was sidelined, but he's unlikely to start when both quarterbacks are healthy.

Jones is the QB13 in numberFire's Week 9 rankings and our models project him for 15.3 FanDuel points, 187.3 passing yards, 0.82 touchdowns, 0.6 interceptions, and 35.9 rushing yards. The Raiders are allowing the ninth-fewest FanDuel points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, but their pass defense only ranks 20th in our opponent-adjusted NEP model. Jones is averaging negative-0.27 Passing Net Expected Points per attempt this season, ranked last among all quarterbacks with 100-plus attempts. For reference, Taylor is averaging 0.05 Passing NEP per attempt.
