Denver no longer pursuing 49ers' Colin Kaepernick

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is no longer being pursued by the Denver Broncos after Denver drafted quarterback Paxton Lynch with the 26th overall pick, Broncos' general manager John Elway confirmed.

What It Means:

They'll also be out of the running for Sam Bradford. The Kaepernick trade had legs a few weeks back, but talks had reportedly died down recently. Now, the Broncos have a potential franchise quarterback in Lynch. It remains to be seen if Kaepernick can patch things up with San Francisco after demanding a trade earlier this offseason. Per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, some teams think the 49ers will simply cut him.

Kaepernick is coming off of brutal 2015 season in which he ranked 35th among the 37 quarterbacks who recorded at least 200 dropbacks, posting a -0.03 Passing NEP per drop back. Still, as the best athlete 49ers' coach Chip Kelly has gotten to work with at the pro level, Kaepernick is an intriguing option for 2016 if he stays in the Bay Area.
