Jets' Muhammad Wilkerson unlikely to be traded
New York Jets franchise-tagged defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson is unlikely to be traded, with Jets' general manager Mike Maccagnan saying he does not "envision" dealing Wilkerson.
Because any team trading for him would want assurances on a long-term contract, this is not the kind of deal teams can easily work out while on the clock. With little trade action to this point, it is unlikely the Jets find an acceptable offer before the second-round opens Friday night. The two sides have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal, but it feels more likely Wilkerson plays out 2016 under the tag.
Wilkerson ended 2015 with 64 tackles and 12 sacks. He's a huge part of a quality Jets' defense, which finished the year ranked sixth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
