Doug Martin not a lock to re-sign with Tampa Bay, wants to test market

Free agent Doug Martin is looking to "hit the jackpot" after finishing second in the NFL in rushing yards and will hit the open market.

What It Means:

Martin si reportedly playing hardball with the Buccaneers after they scoffed at his fifth-year option prior to the season. Tampa Bay general managers Jason Licht claims Martin and the team have a "mutual" desire to stay together, but beat writer Rick Stroud reports they "aren't really that close in reaching an agreement." Martin is expected to ask for $8 million per year, or what DeMarco Murray received last offseason. "We'll have to see how it goes," Licht conceded.

Among backs with at least 100 carries, Martin ended the season ranked 15th in Rushing Net Expected Points per carry. If he were to leave Tampa Bay, Charles Sims would be in line for the lead job, and the Buccaneers would likely draft a running back.
